Wildflower Mix Area Coverage

Different companies recommend from 8 to 24 pounds of wildflower seed mix per acre for a solid stand.  I prefer a middle area of between 10 to 16 pounds per acre.  At this ratio 1 pound will cover between 2,700 to 3,600 square feet or an area 27 ft. x 100 ft. up to an area 36 ft. x 100 ft.  One ounce will cover from 170 up to 226 sq.  ft. or an area 10 x 17 ft. up to 10 x 26 feet.  If you are planting native grass seed in the same area reduce the amount of flower seed to keep a total of combined seed to 12 to 16 pounds per acre.  You may want to add small quantities of individual species (perennial or annual) in spots to make concentrated splashes or sweeps of color.
