Glandularia canaden, Rose Vervain, also known as Verbena canadensis, Rose Mock Vervain and Rose Verbena, has clusters of rose magenta flowers growing on low spreading plants with many stems that root at the leaf joints as they spread. Rose Vervain is a beautiful and fragrant plant does best in full sun to light shade in average well drained soil. It is beautiful used as a front border in a sunny butterfly garden or as a ground cover on a sunny bank. This tough, heat and drought tolerant perennial and will bloom tirelessly from spring till fall. Shear back Rose Vervain plants when flowering becomes sparse to encourage fresh growth and flowers.
Native Glandularia canaden seed germination is improved after a pretreatment of 3 to 4 weeks of cold moist stratification or when planted outside in the fall or winter.
Native Verbena canaden Rose Vervain is a hardy plant occurring naturally on limestone glades, open wooded slopes, prairies and roadsides from Florida to Texas, north to Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, and introduced in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, and Minnesota.
