Sanguinaria canadensis, Bloodroot, is a charming woodland wildflower with very unusual foliage and flower. This plant grows up to 12 inches tall with a single lobed leaf on each stem. The flower appears first in early spring then the leaf emerges.
The thick horizontal root contains bright orange red juice that was widely used by native Americans for decorations and to treat a variety of ailments.
